Catholic students' spiritual guidance in Finland

27.08.10

The Catholic Students’ Club is a Catholic Society that invites students and young adults who live in or close to Helsinki, Finland, to get together to pray the Holy Rosary of Our Lady and participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in Saint Henry’s Cathedral every fortnight.

It was founded in autumn 1995 as a section of Juventus Catholica, the Catholic youth organization of the Diocese of Helsinki. According to some sources, the exact date of our first Mass would have been Tuesday, December 5th, 1995, at 19.30.

The main idea of the CSC is to meet every two weeks at the Cathedral for Rosary and Holy Mass in the tiny Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. For the liturgy, Latin is used with English readings in order to make it clear that the CSC is meant for all Catholics, not only those who speak Finnish, there being no other universal language for Catholic worship.

After the Mass, there is usually a friendly get-together in the parish hall. There we can relax, talk and acquaint us with each other. Sometimes we organize some other happenings, or at least take part in them.

Our motto has been the same from the very beginning:

It is our conviction that for a truly Catholic life, one needs a plenitude of God’s mercy and love; therefore, we recommend to everybody to make frequent use of the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist. We also wish to encourage you to the daily recitation of the Holy Rosary of Our Lady.
